Steps to become a Hockey Coach with SYHA

USA Hockey is a leader across all youth sports in developing coaches through education, training and communication of the best practices.  Minnesota Hockey, USA Hockey and the Coaching Education Program take great pride in ensuring youth hockey coaches are prepared to create a safe and positive learning environment for all participants.

To meet these standards, a few basic steps are required for coaches to become certified.  Even if you believe all certifications have been completed, check all steps below annually to confirm records are accurate.

STEP 1 (May - July)
The following requirements must be completed before participating in ANY team activities NO EXCEPTIONS (links to each requirement can be found in each number or further below on this page):

STEP 3 (August-November)
Find, register and attend the required USA Hockey Coaching Education Program (CEP) certification clinic. Coaches have until December 31st to complete the appropriate CEP clinic.  SYHA requires them to be completed by December 15th to allow time to verify requirements for rosters. Click here for more information.

OPTIONAL REIMBURSEMENT
If desired, submit receipts of fees paid for USA Hockey registration, certification, and modules to sartellhockeytreasurer@gmail.com for reimbursement.  Reimbursement may not be provided if receipts are not submitted, and may not be provided to coaches who do not complete all the requirements.  Alternatively, you may claim your expenses as tax deductions as allowable by current tax law.
